Literature is a mirror in which Polish-German relations are also reflected. The openness of publishers to publishing literary translations – or the lack thereof – remains an important measure of Poles’ knowledge of Germany and Germans’ knowledge of Poland, as well as the level of mutual interest.
The Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation has consistently supported Polish-German literary exchange for many years. It awards grants for the publication of translations, provides fellowships that enable in-depth work on topics that attract the interest of readers in both countries, and funds the Albrecht Lempp Fellowship for writers and translators from Poland and Germany.
Books are at the centre of publicly accessible events that we organise at Zielna Street. We invite you to conversations about new German publications on the Polish book market, debates accompanying new publications in the field of German studies, and discussions about acclaimed books and those that have gone unnoticed, even though they are worth rediscovering. We present reportages by our fellows – journalists from Poland and Germany. Our guests include authors, literary critics, experts and translators.
