Biography
Literary and cultural scholar, social activist, professor at the Institute of German Philology at the University of Gdańsk (Department of German Literature and Culture). Since 2012 she has headed the inter-university and interdisciplinary Laboratory for Borderland Narrative Research; in 2018/19 visiting professor at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz (cultural anthropology). Since 2017 President of the Günter Grass Association in Gdańsk; since 2013 member of the Board of the Kashubian Institute; in the 2019–23 term a member of the Gdańsk Cultural Council.
She researches literature, memory, identity and the landscape of Polish-German borderlands, especially Gdańsk, Pomerania and Kashubia. Her projects at the intersection of scholarship and civil society, as well as her publications, address these themes, including popular literary and historical guides: “Wędrówki z Günterem Grassem. Kartografia literacka Miasta” (Walking with Günter Grass. A Literary Mapping of the City, 2022), “Kaszubski wanożnik po Gdańsku” (A Kashubian Guide to Gdańsk. Signs and Places in the Cultural Space of the City, 2018), and “Śladami żydowskimi po Kaszubach / Jüdische Spuren in der Kaschubei” (Jewish Traces in Kashubia, 2010), of which she is co-author and/or co-editor.
Author of the monographs: “Jüdische Gedächtnistopographien im Grenzraum. Autobiographik nach 1945 von Autoren jüdischer Herkunft aus dem Pommernland” (2019) and “Pamięć dla przyszłości: Literatura wspomnieniowa potomków szlachty pruskiej z Pomorza Zachodniego i Prus Wschodnich po 1945 roku” (Memory for the Future: Memoir Literature of Descendants of Prussian Nobility from Western Pomerania and East Prussia after 1945, 2009).
