The further from Russia an Alliance member state lies, the greater the doubts whether, at the moment of a credibility test for Article 5 of NATO, it would be willing to risk the lives of its citizens by exposing itself to Russian missile attacks. Ultimately, everything in NATO comes down to the old question: “Is it worth dying for Gdańsk?” (from Carlo Masala’s book).
To this question, further ones can be added: to what extent do the interests of Poland and Germany in security policy converge? Is Germany’s change of attitude towards Russia after February 2022 lasting? What can we do (together?) to prevent negative scenarios from becoming reality? These and other issues will be discussed by Carlo Masala and Agnieszka Lichnerowicz.

Carlo Masala – Professor of Political Science, he worked as Deputy Director of the Research Division at the NATO Defence College in Rome. Since January 2024, he has served as Director of the Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies at the Bundeswehr University in Munich. The book “If Russia Wins” became a bestseller in Germany immediately after publication. It was published in Poland by Wydawnictwo WAB in November 2025 (translated from German by Joanna Czudec).

Agnieszka Lichnerowicz – journalist and author, laureate of the Ryszard Kapuściński Award of the Polish Press Agency (PAP), nominated for the Grand Press Award, reporter for Radio TOK FM, where she hosts the programme Światopodgląd, among others.
